Sustainable Rice Platform – SRP

In 2015, the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) launched the world’s first Standard for Sustainable Rice Cultivation (SRP Standard), together with Performance Indicators. These serve as a practical framework and benchmark for sustainability in rice production systems, as well as a tool for assessing sustainability performance.

What is the SRP Standard?

The Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) is an initiative focused on advancing sustainable rice production. Its goal is to minimize environmental impact and support the well-being of rice farmers worldwide.

Objectives and Approach

SRP focuses on promoting more efficient rice production through practices that reduce natural resource consumption—such as water and fertilizers—and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, SRP supports the development of new knowledge and skills for farmers through training and access to up-to-date information services.

Impact on Farmers and the Environment

Participating in the SRP enables farmers to produce rice more efficiently, with the aim of strengthening communities and mitigating climate change risks. At the same time, it promotes sustainable resource management, leading to high-quality rice production and ensuring that society at large has access to standardized and sustainable rice.
